报告人简介:姚冬冬,2008-2012年就读于中国科学技术大学固体地球物理系,2012年赴美国佐治亚理工学院攻读地质科学系博士,2018年获得地震学博士学位。2018年至今在美国密歇根大学安娜堡分校从事博士后研究。研究兴趣包括地震动态触发、小地震监测和定位、前震和余震序列研究、地震活动性和自然以及人为活动的关系。在地震学相关杂志JGR,GJI,GRL等发表论文总数10余篇。担任GRL,SRL,Scientific Report等杂志审稿人。

 

报告介绍: It is well understood that earthquakes occur on critically stressed faults, where elastic strain is accumulated gradually during interseismic period (tectonic rate, cm/year) and released abruptly when earthquake starts (~m/s). The discovery of various fault slip behaviors expands the above scenario and suggests that faults accommodate the stress in different ways. In this talk, we discuss fault slip behaviors during the earthquake cycle and the associated foreshocks, mainshock, and aftershocks. We introduce and test currently debating foreshock mechanisms (preslip versus cascade model) by examining the foreshock sequence preceding the 2010 Mw7.2 Baja mainshock. We also present a detailed study about the aftershock sequence following the 2012 Mw7.6 Nicoya mainshock, together with several geodetic measurements to better understand how the megathrust released the remaining strain and recovered back to interseismic stage. Our results suggest that high resolution earthquake catalogs can help to decipher a better image of the fault slip patterns, which is crucial for seismic hazard assessment.
